I'll never understand the correct behavior at work parties. These
people aren't really my friends, but there is lots of free alcohol
involved. Maybe it's because they're actually closer to a weird,
estranged extended family?

I never had the alcoholic relative experience growing up like everyone
I date, so I really have no idea.

Since both my parents are alcoholics, I don't know what it's like not to have alcoholic parents. It's like when I was about 4 and I thought that all grown ups smoked. When you work full time, your coworkers end up knowing you better than your family sometimes. Sometimes you actually enjoy spending time with your coworkers outside of work, sometimes your coworkers become like the members of your family that you love, but don't really like too much. You put up with them because you have to, but you definitely would rather not have to deal with them.
